I'm very happy to have discovered it!
Not small was my surprise to read your offer for a Romanian audiobook of Jane Eyre! I would be very interested in it!! I didn't even know such a thing existed :)
Jane Eyre was the first "book for grown-ups" to make a deep impression on me, when I read it at age 10 or 11 :) Since then, the Brontës have had a special place in my heart.

So, thank you very much for keeping this blog, which I know I'll be visiting :) and for your generous offer!

LiantasseAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14259201.post-1157502241666791932006-09-05T20:24:00.000-04:002006-09-05T20:24:00.000-04:00to penny:Very off topic! The interview is much better as well. I knew he'd have a good understanding of the character! I hope some more clips will leak out to keep me going until the DVD (my new university is out of range of PBS :(Brontëanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12871588304265056120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14259201.post-1157496460493399092006-09-05T18:47:00.000-04:002006-09-05T18:47:00.000-04:00eek, so off topic for this post: Toby Stephens was...eek, so off topic for this post: Toby Stephens was interviewed this morning on BBC Breakfast and I found a clip to download here. Villette it is! I listened to the Jane Eyre opera last night and it worked nicely. Mostly it is okay, and not too blatant, but it wavers. At one point he has to say to Lucy ‘tu as mon coeur’, already a shocking barbarism with the ‘tu’, but he pronounces ‘coeur’ as ‘cour’. Bahness!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14259201.post-1157455703245835812006-09-05T07:28:00.000-04:002006-09-05T07:28:00.000-04:00Not having to see him act is a bonus indeed ;) I a...Not having to see him act is a bonus indeed ;) I am quite disappointed with the quality of these recent BBC radio adaptations. They're laughable. I haven't listened to all of The Professor or Villette yet but Shirley was silly- especially the very stagey fake French accent they gave Robert Moore!

And I always thought 'Barraclough' would be pronounced 'Barraclaw' in the Irish style not 'Barracluff.'Brontëanahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12871588304265056120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14259201.post-1157446031509444892006-09-05T04:47:00.000-04:002006-09-05T04:47:00.000-04:00IIRC I don’t mind Ciaran so much in the radio vers...IIRC I don’t mind Ciaran so much in the radio version – partly because one of the things I objected to in the TV version was his nasty moustache (how shallow I am!). Sophie Thompson, however, who usually I love, made a very bad choice in giving Jane such a girly lisp, however.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
