UK Cover Art for the BBC's 1973 Jane Eyre

As time draws nearer for its first release since its production in 1973, this version of Jane Eyre now has cover art for its US and UK editions. The DVD can now be preordered from the following websites:

For the UK edition:
ChoicesDirect
">BBC Store
Play.com

For the US edition:
Collectables Direct (for American customers, and for Canadian customers here)

And from the Brontëana archives, here is a contemporary American review of this production, as well as some heated material from the Radio Times 1973 article in which two Yorkshire writers battle it out over Jane Eyre (but have nothing really to say about the show itself!). The post also shows pictures from the Times of Michael Jayston in front of Norton Conyers and Sorcha Cusack in front of the Brontë Cottages (the Clergy Daughter's School a.k.a. Lowood).

Hmm, the covers at choicesdirect and play.com appear to be different - the titles at least. And one has the BBC logo and the other doesn't. How odd! Do you know which one is correct?

They must have just put theirs up last night/this morning! Actually, both do have the BBC logo on them (the one on this post has it under the title but the picture is too smal to really tell). I hope the one from Play.com is correct because this other one is pretty ugly looking ;) I wonder why they think they must play aroud with the saturation levels and colours- it looks fine on the film!

I agree, I prefer the play.com one as well. I have ordered my copy from the BBC Shop, so we shall see! Incidentally I received a peculiar e-mail from them yesterday:

Dear Sir/Madam
Thank you for the recent order you placed for 'Jane Eyre'.
Unfortunately the release date for that product has now been changed to 05.06.06 [ie 5th June] therefore we will be unable to fulfil your order until that date.
Please be assured that your account will not be debited for this item until it is despatched.
I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience in this matter.

I am confused since I thought the release date was 8th June anyway!
