These clips are from the first public version of Jane Eyre: The Musical as performed in Wichita, Kansas in 1996. Marla Schaffel is Jane, Anthony Crivello is Mr Rochester.

so anthony hopped up an octave on his descants at the end. super fun. I wish James Barbour had done that; perhaps not in his range.

that was awesome !

to sarah:

They were posted on YouTube. Unfortunately this is one of the few recordings I do not have full access to, although I do have an audio version. This is one of the most interesting early stages, so it is a pity I cannot see the whole thing (and, I am also a fan of Anthony Crivello, and his interpretation of Rochester).

Some parts of Rochester's music was lowered for James Barbour. I believe the role itself was changed from tenor to baritone, as the company which sells the performance rights specifies that Rochester is played by a baritone (if I'm not mistaken).

I'm glad you enjoyed them! I am told there will be more posted shortly.

Oh, yay! I have become sort of a collector of obscure songs from this musical, and I'm really curious about the Wichita version. Thank you!
