What Hasn't Been Done to Wuthering Heights?

I have a few Wuthering Heights clips today. First, the infamous The Semaphore version of Wuthering Heights from Monty Python's Flying Circus.

Keeping with the parody theme, there's also a sequel- part of a student English project: Wuthering Heights 2: Lock and Load starring Steven Segal as Lockwood. The premise? Wuthering Heights has turned into 'a protal to HELL!!!' and only one man can close it is Mr. Lockwood. There are lots of machine guns and demons. You can view the... trailer.. here.

And lastly, thanks to RuggedClause I bring you a 1978 music video of Kate Bush's 'Wuthering Heights,' which has to be one of the most bizarre things I've seen today.

kate bush is a huge fan of the book. the video may be odd, but it's the song that made her huge in england.

her birthday is the same as emily's.

This is actually the first time I have heard it, but I have heard of it for years. It's catchy. And the crazy modern dancing is hypnotic after awhile.

What a treat to see this again! Although, it's not my favorite of the two videos she made for this song - the other has her performing out of doors, wearing a red dress. I love this song (although I do happily admit it's on the odd side), because it introduced me to Kate Bush when I was a teenager ... at about the same as I discovered the Brontes. Still love them both!

yeah, katie started out as a dancer so often in her videos you'll see her doing this crazy kind of modern dance stuff. some people really can't stand her but she's one of my favorite female artists of all time. her singing is more than just singing, it's sort of theatrical and operatic. the dreaming is one of the best records ever made, i think.

anyhow, if you can see the other video, check it out. it's a bit different and more in keeping with the theme of the song. :)

Oh, that explains a lot. I took modern dance lessons a few years ago and I thought that I recognised most of the movements. I've posted the other clips on my latest post.

yes, kate studied modern dance. it's very near and dear to her heart and most of her videos or live performances involved some amount of dance.

you'll see a lot of people on the net--especially really young people--talk about how crazy she looks or how she must be nuts, but i think it's because they have little to no exposure to modern dance. i love modern dance, so she always looks great to me. :)

Even I thought it was bizarre at first, but I think you're right. I think that the movements of modern dance are akin to a language and it is one that we really don't understand or see much of in our society. I haven't seen any pieces, or performed in any for over 6 years it must be. It took me a moment or two to realise that she wasn't just improvising. I think her choreography is very evocative of the novel. And modern dance is definately a great medium for an adaptation of the book- there are so many strong emotions.
