The Ruperrochy.

I must be feeling a little better. A few readers were disappointed that I didn't have any snarky commentary for the second episode. They also pointed out that Rochester looks like Rupert the Bear, so I thought I would do a side-by-side. I think this is quite damning evidence, really. Although the term I coined sounds a bit like Scooby saying 'Super Rochy' but that would be... well, possibly that Victorian illustration of Rochester flying through the air). Never fear, it is de rigeur that Rochester have at least one hideous outfit per adaptation. His robe usually suffers this fate, although some robes have been so hideous as to spawn fan clubs of their own. That's right, Mr Rochester is so wonderful that there are fan clubs for his ugly clothes. 'Adorably hideous, just like Edward.' On second thought, perhaps I'm not getting better. Perhaps this is just the begining of delirium.

That is the first picture I have seen where both Rupert and Rochester are in the same room!

I had my suspicions before...

I'm glad to hear that you are on the mend. I think we all missed your snarkiness. Thanks for sharing your observation and enhancing it with a visual aid. I'm just wondering why Rupert is not wearing a cravat?? That yellow scarf just doesn't cut it!

Blimey, you and Aunt Reed sick, at the same time, at the same blog. Methinks fiction is somewhat full of holes: if Rochester had had the goodness to keep Bertha Mason and Grace Poole at Ferndean long term, no one would have been the wiser. Imagine a crazy woman and Adela under the same roof. What was he thinking? There's a great and subtle likening of the three stages of sexuality to the three floors of Thornfield: first floor, everday interaction; second floor, romantic love; third floor, the danger and peril of unbridled passion. JE and ER have to pass through all three in order to integrate and become whole.

Are you at all familiar with the polkaroo? I think it might be an exclusively Canadian childhood phenomenon but I cannot be sure. There's a children's show with a man and a woman hosting. During the second part of the show, one of them will make some excuse to leave and then this polkadot giraffe/kangaroo person comes to visit. When the polkaroo leaves the second host comes back and says something like 'oh, darn! Did I miss the polkaroo again?'

So, did you suspect that our Mr Rochester and Mr. Bear were one and the same? ;)

We should direct Mr. Bear here:

The Cravat Company.

The problem there is that Bertha might have died of the dampness there- I guess. That's Mr. Rochester's excuse anyhow!

My problem wasn't the jacket itelf, but the hideous red color. Much, much too bright. And when I saw him on his horse at the end, the red color combined with that poodle hair made me cringe.

It's really amusing to have Rochester next to Rupert the Bear!

Ah..now he is wearing the scarlet coat (a reversal of 1973 perhaps? ;)
