Wuthering Heights 1970 Clip
I couldn't help myself. I had to make this clip. This is about 50 seconds of footage from the 1970 Wuthering Heights. This scene made me laugh hysterically the first time I saw it. It still gives me a chuckle whenever I see it. The film itself isn't as bad as this clip. I suppose my readers who have only seen Timothy Dalton play Mr Rochester should be prepared for some rather unRochesterian acts involving hysterical women and a poker. (I always think those women look like fangirls...)

Ha Ha Ha! He was exhibiting why he qualifies to be the next Bond!
Oh, this is hilarious.
to chrisv:
That might explain it! Here I thought he had stopped taking the pills.
Isabella... Isabella is too funny.
to anonymous:
My work here is done.
Sorry Isabella. You just won't make it as a Bond girl.
Where were all those servant girls hiding, in the corridor? And the horse: does it have rocket launchers and a concealed laser beam? No serious Heathcliff should be without one.
to chrisv:
I really hate the bit in the 1983 version where Rochester puts out the fire while Jane stands back in horror with her hands over her face. I sent a screencap of it to a friend who captioned it: "OMG I'm a bond girl!" Now I don't hate it so much :)
to penny:
Fangirls, fangirls I tells ya! (see how they run toward him?).
I am writing a fan fiction story in which all of the different Janes and Rochesters from every adaptation (book, film, television, radio, and illustrations even!) meet. Dalton!Rochester's Mesrour has a radar centre in his haunches. Rochester taps his back and with a *click* the lid flips up. I think he also had to put his shoe on a turntable to get the images from inside Thornfield to appear. He was trying to safeguard the Thornfield biscuit supply from Soviet sabotage.
I can just hear the theme song now.
Hey my husband just pulled up this info that perhaps can be incorporated into your fanfic. Apparently Patrick MacNee also was the opening credit announcer for the original Battlestar Galactica. It all comes full circle, doesn't it?!
But Rochester and Heathcliff have almost nothing in common; Heathcliff is meant to be his patronymic: wild, like the heath, and on the verge, like hanging over a cliff.
Yeah, I read in a critical essay that this part in the movie was over the top, James Bondish theatrics etc....Too bad they did that scene that way, because otherwise this version is not so terrible. Other than Heathcliff slapping Cathy around, I thought a lot of the spirit that EB put in her book was captured in this film nicely. I saw this movie first, it made me want to read WH, and then since EB had no others, I then read JE, and TToWH, and Agnes Grey.
