Reader, I Married Him: Jane Eyre

It took me a ridiculously long time to get this clip uploaded to YouTube, but here it is at last and by popular demand. As for the section about Mr Rochester, I am having less luck. The clip Penny sent didn't download properly, or there is some other problem which prevents me from editing it down to a proper size. So, no Mr Rochester, I'm afraid (at least for now).

This was fantastic! As an American, I don't get to see BBC stuff (I only have basic cable) until it makes its way to PBS, or maybe BBC America in a few years. Thank you so much!

I did manage to get a new file of the 'Heroes' episode including Mr Rochester so I'll be able to upload that today. That is taking me a riduculously long time as well (the transfer rate went from 400, to 600, to 300, to 72 kb per second! All still falling).

Although the Rochester clip is significant for how many strange things are said about Rochester. I learned that one of the most highly regarded Bronte scholars seems to have delusions about Mr R being 'this rake who's had lots and lots of mistresses' and that he has to be 'tamed' and 'symbolically castrated' etc. Humph! I say.

I like the Rochester segment a lot. It is funny how they mention how M Heger was probably the inspiration for Rochester, and then show that portrait of him in that silly beard, and have to explain that perhaps there was some physical difference!
By the way, apologies, I never realised you wanted to put my review on LERO of the Polly Teale JE on here (assume that’s the one you mean!) – feel free to do so of course, obviously omitting the comment that London lero-ers can still go see it.

to liz: You should see the other pic of M.Heger. He looks... rather balding. And heavy and lifeless. But maybe that was just the artist. ;)
